Hi, my name is

Carla Williams (she/her)

I am a birth and postpartum doula as well as a board-certified OB/GYN. I’ve been immersed in the world of birth work since 2014 when I started my training in Obstetrics & Gynecology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in the South Bronx. Since 2018, I’ve practiced out of Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital in Westchester County, New York. During residency I was bombarded with a heavily medicalized version of birth, but being deeply rooted in a natural lifestyle from a young age via my Afro-Dominican roots, I’ve known that labor and delivery doesn’t always have to include IV drips and scalpels.

I’m a mother of three and have personally experienced deliveries in both the hospital and home birth setting. Throughout my years working as an obstetrician, I’ve always taken a fairly uncommon “hands-off” approach to birth whenever possible. I believe we should allow nature to unfold and medically or surgically intervene only when truly necessary. As your doula, my ultimate goal is for you to attain the birthing experience you desire and to remember it with joy. Whether that entails an unmedicated birth, a gentle cesarean, or anything in between - I will help you understand all of your options and fully support you in your decisions. I want you to feel empowered and confidently advocate for yourself - I will help you get there. I believe in you and the innate ability you have.

My holistic approach addresses all facets of the experience - how you feel physically, emotionally and spiritually, while giving you the facts you need to make a fully informed decision that’s right for you and your family. I do that through evidence based data, comforting touch, counter pressure, vocalization, herbs, homeopathy, positional changes, affirmations, and the normalization of the birth process. The combination of my medical knowledge and wisdom of traditional practices surrounding pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period allow me to thoroughly serve your needs during such an important life event. Birth is truly transformative and it is my honor to hold space for you in your transition to parenthood.

Testimonials:

Dr. Carla Williams was my doula during the pregnancy, birth and post pregnancy of my second child, my daughter. It has been an amazing experience to have a doula. I did not get to experience having a doula with my first child. Carla was and is there for me in every way. Every time I called or sent a text should would reply and reply with a solution to my problem. She helped me navigate through pregnancy, emotions and my midwives and sonography doctor.
Prior to my pregnancy I had a tummy tuck and this made it hard for the sonographers yo accurately measure my daughter. There was always something wrong. They claimed my placenta was low, my baby was small, her head was small, I would need to have an emergency c section. This would scare me every time that there was barely any good news towards the end of my pregnancy. After most if not all I’d call or text Carla for reassurance because she was always a positive light and the fact that she is an OBGYN, she was educated in this area. She’d calm my nerves and let me know that everything is going to be okay and that my daughter is healthy! She’d say don’t let them scare you into do anything you don’t want to do (C-section) and your placenta will move up. She was absolutely right. My placenta moved up and I gave birth naturally! She is a big reason I stayed sane during this pregnancy. With all these doctors and nurses with their negative vibes. Carla ultimately empowered me at a time when I was low in vibration. I trusted her with my life and my daughters life. My daughter was born 7lb 11oz and healthy.
Even post pregnancy she continues to check on me and Jiselle and even came to visit us. Carla has been an amazing Doula. Her spirit, patience and knowledge of gynecology all combined makes her a qualified doula. Also being a mother she understands what we go through physically, emotionally and mentally.
I want to thank Carla with all of my heart for being so influential during one of the most important times of my life. I will forever be indebt. With her I probably wouldn’t have experienced a natural birth as I wanted to.
I told her she is an Angel on earth and will save so many lives, especially in the black and brown community.
We love you Dr. Carla!
